2009 – A Good Year for ROTZLER

29.07.09
Winch manufacturer sees no current cause for concern

The employees at the Steinen-based winch manufacturer, ROTZLER, have every reason to begin their annual company break on a positive note. At a recent personnel assembly, members of the executive management and the works’ council presented company news as well as details of the company’s current economic standing. The chairman of the works’ council, Thomas Wagner, summarised the tasks performed by the council. The new CFO at ROTZLER, Christopher Friedrich, commented on fiscal 2008 and confirmed that the company was both currently in good financial shape and had consistently generated high profits in the past. This expert opinion is underscored by the annual report for 2008, a copy of which – as in every year – was handed to the company’s employees.

The company’s CEO, Jürgen Rotzler, provided details of the year to date. Two major markets are decisive for ROTZLER: civilian and military applications involving winches. The military market is subject to anti-cyclic fluctuations and characterised by projects that can often be of a longer-term nature. This market currently forms a focal point for the company and therefore helps to cushion the effects of the present crisis. On the civilian market, however, ROTZLER is also feeling the pinch of the global economic downturn. Nonetheless and despite fewer orders coming in from this market, ROTZLER expects to surpass its sales target for 2009. “During the first six months of 2009, we recorded sales that clearly exceeded our expectations. In the next half year, sales are likely to level off slightly, but this is no cause for concern. All in all, we can expect the fiscal year to be a good one and generate respectable earnings“, explained Jürgen Rotzler.

Furthermore, he announced the good news that short working hours or even staff dismissals were highly unlikely based on the current situation.

The CEO also presented a tentative forecast for 2010 and felt confident that it too could prove to be a normal year for ROTZLER. "The crisis will pass, even if recovery will not be spontaneous. However, ROTZLER’s world will no longer be the same afterwards.” He also stressed the importance of concentrating on markets with growth potential in the future. These include Asia and South America, two areas in which the company will have to intensify its present level of activities. "These markets are governed by very different requirements to those found in Europe or North America. And not least the different cultures will be a challenge for us,” added Jürgen Rotzler. Over the longer term, Europe and North America are unlikely to regain their previous strength. ROTZLER not only aims to further expand its current global leadership among providers of winches and system solutions within the military sector, but equally intends to increase its share of the civilian market.

In this regard, Jürgen Rotzler puts the emphasis firmly on the company’s defining characteristics: top quality und customer satisfaction. In the final analysis, these are the two factors that safeguard jobs. ROTZLER neither has a history of nor any future plans to merely pursue profit maximisation or solely concentrate on company growth.

To ensure the company’s objectives can be met, corporate processes are subject to continuous review. Suitable measures for improvement are then taken where necessary. The recent addition of an in-house steelwork department for supplying complex parts at short notice is a good example. As a result, ROTZLER can now offer shorter delivery periods for customer-specific parts, which has shown itself to be a distinct competitive advantage. In a similar vein, the company’s readiness for the future has been further improved by a newly established electrical workshop.

In closing, Jürgen Rotzler voiced his appreciation of all the hard work put in by ROTZLER staff, whether it be at a workbench or a desk, and called on the workforce to remain committed and so ensure the right conditions for further success in the future.
